You know by now we’re pretty used to see some of the most passionate people in South Africa but to be honest, WETHERD clothing and the guys that run it are ranked right up there at the top. I mean how can you not be when you have you own personal MX track at your House/Office….yeah you can say it….you Lucky Fuck.

but here is the main man himself talking about how he got started and then we’ll carry on with our review of WETHERD

Yeah I hate them as well hahaha. but in all seriousness they are a brand worth watching and looking out for, their style is a unique bland of petrol fueled insanity and flat out design brilliance. Wetherd was started initially as a skateboard brand, but once the petrol fumes saturated their veins it was all about motox.

With initial designs being nothing more than fabric paints, stencils and stock T’s, WETHERD see’s a bright future for itself and why not, the Gap in the S.A Motox industry needs to be exploited especially in our minds as the large labels have become somewhat stagnated and boring with their approach to MX gear. WETHERD is that perfect blend of ART and INSANITY that most MOTOX riders posses and thrive on. Not forgetting their roots in their design and companies route to where it is now They want to return to putting their artwork and various paint techniques back onto clothing once again in a LIMITED run of threads aptly called the WETHERD ART RANGE

Followed and represented by the WETHERD LEGION, the boys are also Home grown and are happy to share their jewel of a private track with anyone who is in or travelling near the Eastern Cape (East London) and would like to take a whack at it. WETHERD also looks after its own with WETHERD and most of the LEGION riders alos being sponsored by VON ZIPPER eyewear……WTF…OK seriously now Dont you think Fetish should get a sponsor….someone…anyone…

INTERVIEW: CALVIN VLAANDEREN 20 October 201

MXSA: Calvin, you have been overseas a fair amount this season. Tell us where you been and how you did?
CV: I first went overseas in July - August to Europe starting in Germany and Holland. The first week I attended the KNMV training week organised by Leon Giesbers where I learnt quite a bit! The next weekend I raced in my first EK125 race in Loket, Tzech. This is the European 125cc class that is raced on the same day as the MX1 and MX2. What an experience that was seeing all my heros walking around!
After a really good weekend, I ended 9th overall. We then drove down to Cingoli in Italy for the Junior World Championships. It was nice for me to see all my South African friends again. That weekend ended up well and I got a 10th overall.
After driving up to England I raced another EK125 class the next weekend in Matterley Basin. After a few crashes, I finished up 13th overall. Last weekend I travelled to Belgium and raced in the Coupe De L'avenir. Although the weekend started off well, I had a big crash in the last lap of the 2nd practise. The medics told me I had broken a rib but I did not want to let SA down. Shannon Terblanche (SA team manager) said I only had to race the first heat which I did, in quite a bit of pain! I finished 22nd in that heat. SA achieved 11th overall but it was a really good experience for me cause I travelled there on my own.

MXSA: You have developed huge amounts of corner speed, but with natural flow! Who has helped you with your riding technique?
CV: I would say that Leon Giesbers has had a huge impact on my riding technique and style. He has been coming to CT at least once a Year since 2003 tohelp and train us. I have also been training with John Wakefield from Pelotrain for 3 Years and he has also really helped me with my fitness and riding technique.

MXSA: What fitness training do you do?
CV: I do a combination of strength and cardio, together with time on the bike. Thanks to my mom I also eat really well!

MXSA: What has been you best national this season?
CV: I would have to say that Springfield National at the beginning of the Year. My dad said that I should try and handle it on my own, and without them there I had a great day. It added to my belief that I can succeed! (Thanks Byron and Kimber Gould for looking after me in Durban. J)

MXSA: What is your favourite track in SA?
CV: I used to really like Nelspruit which is not used anymore. Now definitely Teza in Richards Bay. Unfortunately there was no National there this Year.

MXSA: What are your plans for next season?
CV: I have nothing in writing yet, but I know where I would like to be and that is in Europe.

MXSA: What is your carreer goal?
CV: I would like to work my way through the EK125\ EMX2 then later onto MX2 and MX1.

MXSA: What rider do you look up to?
CV: There are quite a few riders but I think Ken Roczen and Chad Reed stand out the most for me.

FMX Secunda

Howdy guys

Hope you are all doing well and I hope you all had a good new year.

Well things finally got under way this 2nd weekend in February, we did a demo at the 1st round of the Jetski National series at Secunda.
I grabbed Potter and dragged him down there with me. We arrived on Friday and started setting the rig up.
Saturday came around and we had to do our 1st show at around 13h30, which was awesome with a crowd of around 500+ people.
The second show was to be jumped at 5pm, but we saw the weather started pulling in and the promoter decided we should get the show done earlier.
Despite gale force winds blowing, we still managed to pull off a really cool show.
We really had such an awesome time and thanks to you guys once again for your HELP and SUPPORT.
Special thanks go out to Franki for coming out and supporting for the day.

My team and I are off on Thursday to go do a huge event down in Cape Town called Ultimate-X.
This is sure to be a huge event.
Will keep you guys posted on what went down.

The Kwazulu-Natal leg of the Full Throttle National Motocross Championship will be held this weekend at the Springfield MX-Track.
South Africa's best motocross talent will be there to do battle for the coveted title of South African Champion.

We at Wetherd Clothing & Design would like to congratulate our friend Lorena Garal for being chosen to represent Mexico as part of their first womens team at the International Six Day Enduro (ISDE), which will be hosted by Mexico On 1-6 November 2010.
We wish her the best of luck, & hope she has a successful and safe race.
The ISDE is the Enduro equivalent of the 'Des Nations' and has attracted national teams from as many as 32 different countries in recent years.
Over the six days, and upwards of 1250 kilometers a rider must contend with strict rules about time allowances and restrictions on mechanical replacements, carrying out his or her own track-side repairs.
We are holding thumbs for you Lorena.

Junior Motocross des Nations - Coupe De L'Avenir

We at Wetherd are extremely proud to have been associated with Team South Africa at the 39th "Coupe de l'avenir" which
took place on October 9th and 10th 2010 at Angreau, in the south-west of belgium.

The "Coupe de l'avenir" is an international motocross competition which follows the same principles as Motocross Des Nations and is reserved for riders younger than 21 years old.
Federations from all motocross racing countries are invited to enter a team of three riders.
This event is a springboard for young top motocross racers who wish to pursue a professional career.
This cup was created 40 years ago by Joël Robert, six time world champion, with the purpose of highlighting the future stars of worldwide motocross.

Team South Africa who qualified in 3rd position, unfortunately had a bit of hard luck in the heats and finally finished 7th overall.
Congratulations go out to Shannon Terreblanche, David Goosen, Nicholas Adams & Aaron Mare.
